December 1, 1999 Dear Family, I'm sorry for not keeping you more up to date lately; this is just a brief note with some prayer requests. God has blessed Skylar with lots of energy and in many ways guarded him from some of the more severe side effects of chemotherapy. My visit with the family last weekend was a blessing to me. I am very grateful for God's kindness to date! Skylar ran circles around me much of the time. Even so, there are some fearful events coming up before long; perhaps surgery before the end of the year, and then a bone marrow transplant next year. I will send some more letters in the next couple of days with further details; for the moment, Pam is at Stanford with Suzanne and Skylar as Skye receives another round of chemotherapy. Please ask the Lord for continuing protection for Skylar from the bad side effects. Please pray for our son Jeff and our daughter-in-law Suzanne; this situation has been a severe strain on their marriage. I thank God for a loving Christian couple who have repeatedly looked after Skye's older brother Chris during the extended times when Suzanne is away from home with Skylar. They are Katie and Joe, and they have been a blessing to our family. While in Atascadero, I was able to take Chris to church on Sunday morning and then Sunday afternoon Chris and Skye and I went to Morrow Bay. We played at a couple of parks, walked on the beach, built a sand castle, watched the surfers, flew a kite and some toy helicopters, had some ice cream, and sang and talked about many things. God is good. I said good-bye to Skylar Sunday night and took the train back to work very early on Monday morning. Pam will not be home until the end of the week. Please keep her in your prayers; she is very tired. Thank you and God bless you. -Dann
