September 23, 1999 Dear Family, We received some very distressing news today. Skylar has been re-admitted to the Children's Hospital at Stanford. Apparently his tumors have begun to grow again. They expect to keep Skye at Stanford for five days. Each day he will receive two doses of different kinds of chemotherapy. These are presumably stronger chemicals than the ones that they have been using up until now. One of them can cause kidney damage, which is of great concern because Skylar has only one working kidney. These chemicals are also expected to suppress Skylar's immune system even further than the original chemicals. Because of this, Suzanne will have to administer daily injections of something called Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor which is intended to stimulate white blood cell production. For reasons I don't yet understand, I am told that the injections must be administered with a needle into Skylar's thigh, rather than through the catheter. Pam and I plan to leave tomorrow (Friday) evening and drive to Atascadero, where we will pick up some clothes and other things for Suzanne and Skylar. We will also take Skye's older brother Christopher with us up to Stanford on Saturday morning. We plan to stay in Stanford until Skylar is ready to go home, which will be sometime on Tuesday, God willing. I know and believe that God has a good purpose in all of this; I know that all Jesus need do is speak the word, and Skylar would be made well. I have asked the Lord to do so, at the same time asking Him to help me with my remaining unbelief. I ask you as my brothers and sisters to appeal to the Lord with me on Skylar's behalf, and to hold us up in prayer also that we may trust Jesus in Whose Name alone such help may be found, as it is certainly not in any of us (Acts 4). Please ask at the throne of Grace for us to accept and desire God's will to be done. We love you all and thank you for bearing our burden with us. In Christ, -Dann
