August 19, 2000 Dear Family, I am writing to you from Atascadero California, where Skylar lives. The Make A Wish foundation gave Skylar a party today. It was very nice, especially because many people important to Skylar came to see him. This included his pediatrician, Dr. Macias, as well as three doctors and a nurse all the way from Stanford. Of course, his Mom and brother Chris were there, also his Aunt Terry. Friends from the neighborhood were there, and Nana, Papa, and Uncle. There were presents for Skylar, an entertaining clown, music, and lots of expressions of love. I know that Skylar enjoyed his day as well as he could in his distressed condition. I am very grateful to all who planned and who attended for their kindness to Skye. I have some special requests to share with you tonight. Tomorrow morning will be my first opportunity to prepare special food for Skylar. For the first couple of days, I will only give him 8oz of this fresh vegetable juice as a supplement to his tube feeding. Then, if he tolerates the new food well, I will be able to gradually replace the canned food he is receiving with the fresh juice formula. At this moment I don't know what the Lord will do. I only know that I am doing everything that I know how and am allowed to do, and that the outcome is in the Lord's hands. And so, my first request is that the Name of the Lord be hallowed, that is, that whatever the outcome may be, I, my family, the church, and all men may honor God and may recognize His wisdom and goodness. Next, please ask that Skylar might tolerate the new food well, that it might taste good to him, that it might settle well in his stomach, and that he might know that Papa loves him. Please pray that I will be able to substitute this fresh food for the canned food over the next several days. The more Skylar drinks, the less time he will need to be hooked up to the food pump. Lord Jesus, You took the five loaves and two fishes and multiplied their effectiveness to feed a multitude of people. I ask that You may please take the small effort of the food I prepare for Skylar and multiply it to strengthen and comfort him in his distress. Thank You, Lord, for Your kindness in making it possible to help our grandson in this way. Thank you, Family, for your prayers and encouragement. In Christ, -Dann(for us all)
