May 5, 2000 Hello, Here's an update on what's happening here at the hospital. Right now Sky's getting a sponge bath from Nana and Mommy, so I thought this would be a good time to come down the the medical libray and write. The doctors have been wondering why there has been a lot of output from the suction tube in Skylar's stomach. They thought that the tube might be in too far. So last night an x-ray was taken of his stomach. The tube was in too far, so the nurses pulled it out a couple of inches last night. This procedure was very uncomfortable and frightening for Sky. After they were done, Skylar was tired and decided to go to sleep. Nana and Uncle left for the evening. Shortly after we arrived today, the doctors came in for a visit. They told us that Sky is now producing very little output from the suctioning tube in his stomach, and the they think he is ready to begin eating liquid foods. They are planning to remove the suction tube within the next few hours, which will also be very frightening and uncomfortable for Sky. Today Uncle, Nana, and Mommy noticed that Skylar's eyes look a little better. They're not open as wide as they have been, and the pupils look somewhat less dilated. The results from the CT scan indicate no abnormalaties with his eyes - which is what the doctors were expecting. There are many possibilities on what might be causing this; we here at the hospital think that a likely answer is withdrawal from the powerful medications he received while he was on the ventilator. The doctors also recommended that Sky take a ride in his cardiac chair today, to stimulate him and to get a little exercise. We hope to be able to do that this afternoon with a little assistance from Sky's nurse and his physical therapist (it's a big production to move him from the bed to the chair with everything that he is hooked up to). We are truly astounded and thankful for what the Lord had done for Sky and our family. Thank you so very much for your continued prayers.
