May 2, 2000 Dear Family, Skylar continues to do well, thank you for your ongoing prayers. Pam and Chris arrived at the hospital in Stanford today after taking Skylar's brother Christopher back to Atascadero to go back to school. We had a good visit with Christopher while he was here, and I know that many of you saw him with us at church on Sunday. He also came with us on the men's campout Friday night and had a great time. He and I went to the beach Saturday afternoon to ride some waves. Chris sent me some email today about Skylar. Chris reports: ===== "We're at the hosptial. We arrived about 3PM. Skye's doing good... he showed Nana and I how high he can raise his arms and legs." "Earlier today, according to Suzanne, Sky took the Cardiac Chair to have some kind of x-ray taken. I don't know about the results, you'll have to ask us later." "His eyes still look funny - wide open, and somewhat dilated. But he doesn't complain about them. I guess they're still planning to do an MRI at an unknown date in the future." ===== Later this evening I spoke with them on the telephone. The X-ray showed that one of Skylar's NG tubes may have been in a little too far, and so they withdrew it a little. He is still producing too much stomach acid/fluid and they are trying to figure out why. He has been exercising with the physical therapists and also using breathing exercisers. As of today, his oxygen settings (on the wall meter) are down to 2 (from 3 yesterday) and his saturation is still very good. I sang him a song over the telephone; he requested one of the old children's songs that I sing, "When I Was a Little Boy" - and he told me he enjoyed it. While his voice is still somewhat weak, I had no trouble hearing what he said over the telephone. It is so wonderful to hear his voice, and especially to hear him say "I love you". :) That's the news for now. Take care, all! -Dann (for Pam and Chris as well)
